Rant alert, rant alert-
While coming home today on the bus, I was astonished to watch as a little girl and her Mom boarded and not one person offered either of them their seat. The girl couldn't have been older than 6 years old and it was obvious she was struggling to stay on her feet as the bus accelerated, decelerated and rounded corners. I was disgusted to watch as young men and women simply sat and observed the girl stumbling back and forth, her Mom trying to keep her upright. I tell ya, if I had been sitting, I definitely would have offered my seat up. At one point, I even commented (quite loudly, so those self-entitled doorknobs could hear me), how I couldn't believe that no one had offered her daughter their seat. The Mom, trying to downplay the whole thing just said "ohhh, that's okay, that's okay".... Ummmm, last time I checked with my morals, no, it's really not okay.
I understand that people have long days at work, or school, or wherever and want to sit, but this is a child- A child who's obviously not old enough to stand firm ground on a rocky, moving bus driving through the rain on a dark evening. Where has the common courtesy of the past escaped to? Are people really that self-centred and indulged that not one person on a completely packed bus would suck it up, stand up and offer a child their seat?!
Ugh, sometimes in this society full of so much Go-Go-Go, and Me-Me-Me, I really start to lose Faith in Humanity. Where has the "People doing Good for People" mentality gone? The smallest gesture can brighten someone's day; wouldn't you want to give that gift if you were able to? Words of advice to sum up this rant of frustration, take a look around at the People we encounter on a daily basis. You have the Power and Ability to bring a Smile to a strangers face. You have the Power and Ability to show a stranger that not all of mankind has forgone common courtesy and decency. You have the Power and Ability to make the World a more enjoyable place to Live.
